German Lawyers Plan Celebrex Lawsuit
FRANKFURT (AFX) - Four German law firms are planning to take legal action against the US pharmaceutical Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE - news) after a study showed increased cardiovascular risks related to long-term use of its arthritis drug Celebrex, Der Spiegel magazine reported.
"Since a similar study in September made Pfizer's competitor Merck & Co pull its Vioxx drug off the market, more than a thousand concerned Vioxx-users have approached the Berlin-based law firms. Andreas Schulz, one of the lawyers involved, told the magazine that following the withdrawal of Vioxx from the market many of their clients switched treatment to Celebrex."
The law firms are also considering the inclusion of Pfizer's Bextra drug and Merck's Arcoxia drug in a lawsuit against the pharmaceuticals.
